2023 Intentions
As we enter a new year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the 2022 season and set intentions for the 2023 season. As an organization, several actions were taken by the Monarchs to grow from the lessons learned during the 2022 season. We are committed to being responsive to our players and ensuring our future actions continue to support our mission, vision, and values. In order to reaffirm that commitment, we wanted to provide an update on steps we’ve taken in the last year.
The Monarchs founding board of directors was dissolved and a new governing board was put into place. Roles of those on the board and of staff members were rewritten to clearly define the responsibilities of both board and staff. In demonstration of our commitment to prioritizing the safety and health of players, spectators, and community members, all 2022 board members and staff underwent training with trauma therapists on supporting survivors of sexual assault, hosted by Aurora Healing and Advocacy Services. Finally, the Monarchs organization donated 10% of 2022 season ticket proceeds to the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Entering the 2023 season, our mission remains the same: to build a team of strong, spirited players and to provide a space where athletes of diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences have the opportunity to play ultimate frisbee at the highest level. The Milwaukee Monarchs are dedicated to supporting the growth of ultimate frisbee with an emphasis on creating opportunities for and raising the profiles of women, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, and genderfluid people that choose to play and represent Wisconsin and the broader Midwest. We are taking the lessons learned from last season and igniting an optimism to do better as we continue to grow and evolve as individuals and as an organization. We look forward to the new season and hope to see you on opening day.
